The hike is quite a physically demanding loop around Piné, a location in the south-eastern part of the built-up area of Transacqua.

The proposed hike is a beautiful loop that allows you to reach the town of Mezzano from an unusual series of paths. The initial climb may not be suitable for people who are not trained enough and for children who are too young, but once the first difficulties are overcome, once you reach the highest point, the trip will turn into an extremely beautiful and comfortable walk in the woods and allow you to walk in a pristine area lush with natural elements. After getting past the first uphill section, the route then touches the Val di Castel biotope in the Oltra area, while the ascent toward the built-up area of Transacqua has a main stretch entirely in the woods with the notable presence of the capital of Sass o dei Piài. Of noteworthy presence in the Osne area, although in a state of neglect, are the historical Colombaia tower dating back to the 1600s and three inhabited areas that are also long-standing, currently in a state of abandonment.

Author’s recommendation

The route has recently been completely renovated and today you can do it entirely by bicycle or take a walk for a few hours. During winter, the path can actually be frozen, due to the low sun exposure of some parts of it and the humidity of the forest. We also recommend tackling this loop in the afternoon to enjoy a better sun exposure. Excellent hike to do with your dog, while if equipped with a pushchair there is the risk of working too much in the first part of the route.

Destination

Caltene Street - Transacqua

Turn-by-turn directions

From the starting point, follow Via Navoi, passing the built-up area of Navoi and entering the town of Transacqua; at the intersection with via Caltene take the road paved with setts and then climb following via Boiola for at least 1 km, passing the built-up area of Mason, until you see the sign for the path to the Pinedi. Following the signs for Oltra, follow the path, and once past the Pinè, you will easily reach the built-up area of Oltra. Here you can see the biotope of Val di Castel. The return is then entirely on a path that runs along the cycle path below. The path is entirely in the woods, while the last part opens onto the meadows of Osne where you can enjoy an enviable view over the Pale di San Martino. In a few steps you can then reach the arrival point and the nearby built-up area of Transacqua.
