From Canal San Bovo to Caoria and all the way up to the magnificent forests of Valsorda and Fiamena, where silence is only broken by the sound of logging for precious wood. Then down to the hamlets of Cicona and Zortea, after which the trail continues to the Lozen valley and climbs up again to the Gobbera pass, to return to the starting point. A varied and pleasant route through lively villages and majestic woods, on forest roads alternating with tarmac roads, and climbs alternating with descents. Along the way, some interesting spots like the Valzanca sawmill or Malga Fiamena’s belvedere, and some excellent eating places offering typical products in charming locations, like the Santa Romina farmhouse inn or Rifugio Lozen. The less experienced can return directly to Canal San Bovo from Zortea along the main road and skip the last part. Non-signposted trail

Turn-by-turn directions

Departure point, (same as tour 2262), near the house of the Canal S. Bovo park, set off in the direction of Passo Brocon. At the fork (wpt. 01), turn right towards Caoria, continuing for about 4 km as far as the sign indicating Canalini (wpt 02). Then, turn right uphill on a dirt-track to rejoin the tarmacked road which takes you up to Caoria (wpt 03) and then becomes a dirt-track further on. When you reach Ponte Stell (wpt 04), turn right uphill towards Valsorda as far as the fork for Malga Fianema (wpt 05) where you turn right again, still on the dirt-track, following it for about 7 km, ignoring the various forks, until you get to Malga Fianema (wpt 07). Continue on uphill for two kilometres until you go over the pass at the highest point on the tour (1,841 m). Then, go downhill, first on a dirt-track and then on the tarmacked road, staying on the main road for another 7 km as far as the “Cicona” residential area (wpt 10., Near a bend in the road, take the forestry track on the left which is on the flat at the beginning and then, after a few steep stretches, leads up to the fork of a mule track (wpt 012) on the right below the road (make sure you ignore the previous two forks and stay on the main track). A fun descent which leads on to another forestry track (wpt 013) which you should continue along until you get to a tarmacked road leading up from Zortea (wpt 014) to the S. Romina agri-tourism. Go past this and continue on the flat as far as the next fork (wpt 015) where you turn right downhill for a few hundred metres and then change direction near a bend on the left (wpt 016), a gentle uphill stretch at first and then, on the flat as far as a path (wpt 017) which joins up on the right with a track leading to several buildings. Keep left at the fork (wpt 018) and stay on the track which leads directly to the Rifugio Lozen (wpt 019). Then, turn right downhill along the provincial road for about 200 m, before turning left and crossing the river Lozen on a board walk to get to two chalets (private area, continue on foot, wpt 021). Then, go back uphill along a young conifer wood, pushing the bikes on foot. Bear slightly right (wpt 022) as far as the well-marked track, first on foot and then, in part by bike, leading to the forestry road above (wpt 024, passing the fork on wpt 023 where you should turn left). Here, continue to the right, first slightly uphill and then downhill to the fork (wpt 025) where you turn left uphill, continuing on for about 3 km. Before a steep uphill climb, turn right (wpt 026) on a path below the road which, after a short distance, takes you to the houses at the Passo Gobbera. (technical descent, take care when wet). At the Pass (wpt 028), turn right and go downhill for about 100m, then turn left, still downhill, along a narrow road ("Val dei Lach"), which is tarmacked at first before becoming a dirt-track. After the junction where three roads meet (wpt 030), keep right until this road joins up with the provincial road of Passo Gobbera (wpt 031). Then, go left downhill as far as the “Lausen” fork (wpt 032), where you turn right and arrive back at your departure point.
