Turn-by-turn directions
Departure near the house of the Ecomuseo del Vanoi in the town centre, then head towards the Brocon Pass. At the junction, turn right towards Caoria and continue for about 4 km until the sign with directions for Canalini just before the wildlife area. Then turn right and climb along the dirt road that eventually joins the paved road coming up from Caoria, and which further ahead becomes a dirt road again. After reaching Ponte Stel, turn right and head up towards Valsorda until the junction for Malga Fiamena, then turn right again onto another dirt road for about 7 km. Ignore the various junctions all the way until the hut. After the hut, continue climbing for another couple of km until reaching the highest point of our excursion. Descend on the dirt road first and then on asphalt, staying on the main road for another 7 km until above the town of Cicona.
Near a bend, take the Salvania forest track on the left, which on sloping ground at first and after a few short steep slopes leads us to the junction with the Val de Neora forest track, which we take for a short section, then turn right onto the fun downhill trail (S1). At the end of the trail, continue on the dirt road until intersecting the paved road, which from Zortea leads to the Agriturismo Santa Romina. After this, continue on the flat until the next junction, then turn left and climb on asphalt first, then on dirt road until intersecting the Lozen-Mandron forest track and namesake Malga Lozen. After the hut, continue on to the provincial road for the Calaita lake and climb to the left for a few hundred metres until the Frate-Doch-Canazè forest track, first uphill and then on sloping ground towards Sant’Antonio. Continue for a few kilometres, and at the junction keep left until reaching a square where a ridge trail departs, which leads down towards the Capitello di Sant’Antonio, crossing the forest track and continuing downhill. Here, turn right and continue downhill up until the forest track below for a technical (S2), but very fun descent. Continue downhill until reaching a wide trail (S1) on the right, which quickly leads to the Gobbera Pass. At the Pass on the provincial road head towards Canal San Bovo for about 100m, turn left and continue downhill along the paved road called Val dei Lach, then keep going until the connection with the Gobbera Pass provincial road. Then turn left downhill until the Lausen junction, and turn right to return to the starting point.
